Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
